Kazakh-American University Hosts International Conference on Nuclear Industry Development
Kazakh-American University (KAU) hosted an international conference bringing together scientists, leading industry experts, and representatives of professional associations and the industrial sector to discuss the future of the nuclear industry, strengthen international cooperation, and develop a skilled workforce for high-tech sectors of the economy.
The conference was jointly organized by Kazakh-American University and the International Union of Veterans of Nuclear Energy and Industry (IUVNEI), which brings together representatives from 18 countries.
The conference was attended by KAU’s leadership, headed by President Assylbek Issakhov, IUVNEI representatives Vitaly Lebedenko, Bauyrzhan Duisebayev, and Igor Kuleshov, as well as representatives of international organizations and the scientific community.
A central focus of the discussions was strengthening cooperation between the nuclear industry and related sectors, including energy, metallurgy, the chemical industry, geology, and information technology. Participants explored opportunities to integrate artificial intelligence and digital solutions into industrial production, expand international scientific collaboration, exchange professional expertise, and train specialists equipped to meet the demands of an economy undergoing technological transformation.
Particular attention was given to the development of a new energy sector and a fully integrated nuclear cluster in Kazakhstan, strategic priorities outlined by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The discussions emphasized that implementing such initiatives requires a comprehensive approach that brings together scientific research, modern academic programs, industrial infrastructure, and international expert collaboration.
In this context, higher education institutions have a particularly important role to play. Universities are becoming not only centers for training highly qualified professionals but also active contributors to innovation, technology transfer, and the development of new professional competencies.
“Implementing large-scale projects in the energy and industrial sectors requires not only advanced technologies and infrastructure but also highly qualified specialists capable of developing these technologies and taking responsibility for their application. That is why it is especially important today to strengthen cooperation between universities, research institutions, and industrial enterprises, expand international knowledge exchange, and create opportunities to train the next generation of professionals,” emphasized KAU President Assylbek Issakhov.
One of the key outcomes of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Kazakh-American University and the Vostok Union of Nuclear Industry Veterans. The agreement provides a framework for developing joint scientific and educational activities, implementing industry-specific projects, and sharing professional knowledge, practical experience, and industry-specific expertise with students.
This partnership creates additional opportunities for collaboration between academia and nuclear industry representatives, the involvement of industry practitioners in educational initiatives, and the establishment of sustainable ties between higher education and the real economy.
For Kazakh-American University, hosting the international conference marked an important contribution to strengthening partnerships, advancing scientific and educational cooperation, and expanding the University’s engagement in discussions on key issues related to Kazakhstan’s technological and industrial development.
