Kazakhstan National Team Wins Gold at BMO Under the Leadership of KAU President
The Kazakhstan national team, led by the President of Kazakh-American University, won a gold medal at the 2026 Balkan Mathematical Olympiad.
The international intellectual competition took place in Thessaloniki, Greece, and brought together 148 school students. The Olympiad featured teams from the region as well as invited national teams from Asia and Europe. As a result, Kazakhstan’s team won one gold, two silver and three bronze medals, taking 6th place in the overall team ranking.
The gold medal for Kazakhstan was won by Timur Murat, a 12th-grade student at Haileybury Almaty. He scored the maximum 40 points and became one of only three participants to achieve this result. Silver medals were awarded to 10th-grade student Aliaskar Sultanali and 11th-grade student Orynbasar Berdibek. Bronze medals were won by 10th-grade student Batyrkhan Beiganov, as well as 11th-grade students Ali Yerkebulanuly and Arnur Ansatov.
The Kazakhstan team was led by Assylbek Issakhov, President of Kazakh-American University, and Mukhtar Kabak, specialist of the Astana-Nura Intellectual School branch.
Since 2020, the President of KAU has been leading the participation of Kazakhstani school students in international mathematical Olympiads, including IMO and BMO. During this period, young mathematicians from Kazakhstan have consistently demonstrated strong results, winning medals and proudly representing the country on the international stage.
Assylbek Issakhov emphasized that such achievements demonstrate the great intellectual potential of Kazakhstan’s youth. According to him, talented, motivated and hardworking students will contribute to the future development of the country’s science, education, technology and economy. Kazakh-American University, in turn, remains committed to supporting young talents and creating conditions for their academic growth.
Aigazy Kussainov, Founder of the International Educational Corporation, allocated educational grants at KAU to support talented students who participated in the Olympiad. KAU noted that supporting the Olympiad movement is one of the key areas that lays the foundation for preparing the country’s future intellectual elite.
