UNESCO Representative at KAU
Kazakh-American University hosted a meeting with Meirgul Alpysbayeva, National Officer for Education Programmes at the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty. The event was organized with the support of the Astana Diplomatic Club.
Meirgul Alpysbayeva coordinates UNESCO projects in Kazakhstan, including sustainable development, global citizenship, ICT, and artificial intelligence in education. She has experience in strategic planning and the implementation of international projects. She is a graduate of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and Michigan State University under the Bolashak programme.
During the meeting with KAU President Assylbek Issakhov, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation and the speaker’s potential participation in university events. Special attention was also given to the role of social and emotional learning (SEL) in shaping a sustainable, inclusive, and safe academic environment.
Following the meeting, the guest delivered a lecture for KAU students on SEL, highlighting its importance amid current global changes. She also demonstrated how this approach helps develop empathy, dialogue skills, responsible decision-making, and the ability to resolve conflicts peacefully. At the end of the lecture, students took part in interactive games aimed at reinforcing the material.
