Employer Talks at KAU: How Marketing Works in the Banking Industry

Today, banking marketing extends far beyond advertising financial products. Growing competition for customers, the development of digital services, and changing consumer habits require banks to adopt new approaches to promoting their products and services. These were the key topics of a guest lecture delivered by Timur Menlibayev, Senior Marketing Manager at Bank RBK JSC, at the Kazakh-American University as part of the Employer Talks initiative.

The speaker shared his professional experience and discussed the specific challenges and opportunities involved in promoting financial products in today’s market.

The discussion focused on banks’ marketing strategies, customer acquisition and retention tools, the development of digital communication channels, and the role of analytics in making informed marketing decisions.

Particular attention was paid to the distinctive nature of banking marketing, where promotional effectiveness is determined not only by audience reach but also by customer trust, the quality of customer interactions, and financial institutions’ ability to adapt to changing consumer behaviour.

Students also gained insight into the practical aspects of working as a marketing professional in the financial sector. They learned about the skills and competencies currently in demand in the industry and explored how modern technologies are shaping the development of banking services.

Employer Talks is an initiative by Kazakh-American University aimed at strengthening the relationship between education and business. Meetings with industry professionals give students an opportunity to explore real-world industry challenges, understand employers’ expectations, and make informed decisions about their future career paths.
