KAU Presented at an International Seminar on the Future of Nuclear Energy Development

On September 24, 2026, an international seminar entitled “Prospects for the Development of Nuclear Energy and Technologies in Kyrgyzstan” was held in Bishkek. The event was organized by the International Union of Veterans of Nuclear Energy and Industry (IUVNEI) with the support of Rosatom State Corporation and the Council of Energy Veterans of Kyrgyzstan.

The seminar brought together veterans of the nuclear and energy sectors, representatives of public organizations and youth associations, as well as experts from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and several other countries. Members of Rosatom’s Public Council also took part in the discussions.

Representing the Kazakh-American University, Managing Director for Digitalization K.M. Baitasov delivered a presentation titled “Quasi-Natural Underground Nuclear Reactor (QNUR): A Small Modular Reactor Concept Based on Natural Safety Principles.”

The presentation introduced an innovative energy system architecture that integrates existing technologies into a simple modular framework. Unlike conventional Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), the concept focuses not on developing a new reactor or fuel type, but on creating a new configuration of the energy system that enhances simplicity and safety.

The report also examined the technological feasibility of the concept and its potential application for autonomous power supply in remote areas and mining enterprises across Kyrgyzstan.

Participants discussed the future of nuclear energy, its role in the transition toward a low-carbon economy, and the opportunities offered by modern small modular reactor technologies.

KAU’s participation in international expert forums reflects the university’s commitment to advancing research, innovation, and international cooperation in the fields of energy, digital technologies, and sustainable development.
